TLC’s ‘Meet the Putmans’ stars killed in fatal car accident that injured several family members

Three members of the Putman family — once the stars of the TLC reality series Meet the Putmans — have died following a devastating car crash in Michigan that also left several relatives injured.

Bill “Papa” Putman, his wife Barb (known to fans as Neenee), and their daughter-in-law Megan were killed in the accident, according to a statement shared by the family on Saturday.

Several other loved ones, identified as “Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah and Gia,” are currently hospitalized.

“We are asking for complete healing and strength for each of them,” the family said, adding: “Thank you for every prayer, message, and act of love. Your support means more than words can express.”

The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fatal wreck occurred Friday night when a commercial semi-truck failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with an SUV carrying eight members of the Cass City family. Three passengers — Bill, Barb, and Megan — died at the scene. The other five were taken to nearby hospitals, some in critical condition.

The semi-truck’s driver and passenger suffered minor injuries and were hospitalized. Authorities said the driver was arrested and is awaiting formal charges.

“We are asking the public to please pay more attention when driving,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We are having far too many crashes that are destroying people’s lives.”

Cass City sits about 100 miles north of Detroit.

The Putmans rose to fame in 2017 with TLC’s Meet the Putmans, which documented the massive family — 25 people living together under one roof. Though it only lasted one season, the Putmans later rebooted the series on YouTube in 2021 as Growing Up Putman.

In the wake of the tragedy, fans took to social media to share condolences. “I’m incredibly shaken to hear of this great tragedy. Your sweet Neenee, Papa, and Aunt Megan leave such a beautiful legacy and testimony,” one supporter wrote on Instagram. Another added: “Loved you all since your show and I’m heartbroken for you… prayers for all of you for peace and comfort.”
