NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A large, scenic stretch of land near Abiquiu is up for sale. It belongs to a Hollywood legend, actress Shirley MacLaine.
The stunning 7,500-acre property has striking geological features. The ranch brokers said the landscape was even an inspiration for the famous painter Georgia O’Keeffe. “The Plaza Blanca Ranch is best known for its unique geological formations, its expansive views, and its cultural significance.
The white sandstone cliffs were immortalized by the painter Georgia O’Keeffe, who was inspired by the dramatic landscapes around Abiquiu,” said Robert Martin, Ranch Broker with Fay Ranches.
MacLaine purchased it thirty-five years ago. At that time, there were only two old adobe structures, which she expanded into a 9,000 square foot luxury home. MacLaine has starred in dozens of movies, including “Terms of Endearment,” for which she won an Oscar. She later bought this ranch and another home in Santa Fe.
The price for the ranch is $17.4 million. “I think we’ll have a lot of interest in this property. I believe it’s priced right, and it’s in a beautiful area. It also doesn’t hurt to have celebrity status attached,” said Robert Martin. He adds that there are views of Chama River valley and Copper Canyon.
There is a home, barn, and workshop on the thousands of acres of land. It’s very close to Abiquiu and part of it borders seven miles of Carson National Forest. The place also has Native American petroglyphs that were discovered during MacLaine’s ownership. MacLaine previously put the property on the market back in 2014 for $18 million, but it did not sell back then.
