A Florida man was arrested last week for allegedly killing, eating, and cooking his pet peacocks.

On September 23, Craig Vogt, 61, put a letter in a neighbor’s mailbox stating that he killed two peacocks that roamed in his front yard. The note also indicated that Vogt decapitated the birds and let them bleed out as he prepared to eat them for dinner, according to WTVT.

The neighbor said she would feed the peacocks that roamed in Vogt’s yard. Vogt allegedly threatened to kill the birds if she continued feeding them.

The neighbor called Pasco County police upon finding the letter. Officers interviewed Vogt, who said he and the neighbor had a long-standing feud about feeding the peacocks. Vogt then confessed to killing two of the birds out of spite before cooking them in the frying pan and eating them, according to WTVT.

Vogt also told police that he killed the peacocks “to prove a point,” WREG reported.

While being arrested, Vogt allegedly threatened to kill the rest of his pet peacocks to prevent anyone else from caring for them.

Vogt was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals with excessive pain or death. He remains jailed on $25,000 bond.
