Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s split after almost two decades of marriage has sent shockwaves through the showbiz world. 

The Oscar winner, 58, and the musician, 57, are living separately, with an insider saying Nicole was left ‘blindsided’ by the split.

In recent months, there have been indications of trouble in their relationship, including a tense last appearance together, the actress’s noticeable weight loss, and an unexpected decision she made while in Europe.

Last photo together

The couple looked distant during their final outing together before news of their split emerged. 

The pair attended the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 football match between US Los Angeles FC and Tunis’ Esperance Sportive de Tunis back in June.

Nicole and Keith, who are no strangers to packing on the PDA in public, put on a frosty display as they watched the match from the stands. 

They also kept their distance from each other after arriving at the Geodis Park stadium in Nashville.

The outing was the last time the couple were seen together before news of their split became public. 

Social media no-show  

The pair were last pictured on Instagram together on June 25, when Nicole posted a heartfelt wedding anniversary tribute.

Sharing a photo of herself cuddled up to the musician with a guitar on his lap, she wrote: ‘Happy Anniversary Baby’. 

Keith – usually one to gush over his wife in public – left a meagre love-heart emoji underneath the post. 

He also tellingly failed to post his own tribute to Nicole on his Instagram feed. 

A day before their anniversary, he had shared a gallery of photos of himself posing on-stage while on tour.   

In contrast, Keith had previously marked their wedding anniversary on social media by posting a photo of the couple with the caption: ‘Forever [heart emoji] happy anniversary.’ 

Nicole’s solo appearance at Wimbledon 

In July, Nicole attended the Wimbledon 2025 Championships’ final day without her husband. 

The superstar was instead seated alongside Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour at the Royal Box in Centre Court.

As the games got underway, she appeared downcast as she kept her eyes on the court, hiding her eyes behind a pair of sunglasses.

Her pal Anna seemed to cheer her up, as the women were later spotted chatting and smiling together.  

Keith was still travelling the US with his High And Alive World Tour at the time. 

Nicole acquiring residency in Portugal without Keith 

Nicole surprised fans in July when she lodged an application for residency in Portugal. 

Notably absent from the application is her husband, who did not appear to submit a request for residency alongside her. 

According to Portuguese media outlet SIC Notícias, the Oscar-winning actress submitted her paperwork to the country’s Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA).

The surprise move came as Nicole was spotted arriving at the Tires airfield in Cascais – a wealthy seaside enclave just outside of Lisbon – amid reports she was house hunting in one of Portugal’s most exclusive gated communities.

The Nine Perfect Strangers star was said to be eyeing property at Costa Terra Golf & Ocean Club in Comporta, a luxury development popular with global A-listers including George Clooney, Paris Hilton and Princess Eugenie.

However reports later surfaced explaining why Keith was a no-show on his wife’s application.  

Insiders said Keith was unable to attend the mandatory in-person appointment due to ongoing tour commitments in the United States – but was expected to apply separately at a later date.

‘Keith was unable to be in Portugal for this appointment as he is currently on tour in the US. It is mandatory for applicants to be physically present in order to apply for the visa,’ an insider told the New York Post.

‘He is scheduled to submit his application at a later date that works with his tour schedule.’

They added the couple would continue to mainly reside at their US home.

‘Keith, Nicole and the girls will continue to live primarily in Nashville… However they do own property in Portugal,’ they said.

Nicole’s weight loss

Fans have also noticed Nicole’s shrinking frame. 

The actress, who has always been slender, has sparked concern of late thanks to her extremely slender new look.

In January, Nicole put her weight loss on display as she attended the Golden Globes in custom Balenciaga gown that showed off her very lean arms and slim figure.

At the time, her appearance sparked Ozempic rumours, but her weight loss could well have been linked to the festering troubles in her marriage.

Back in October last year, Nicole’s weight loss also made headlines when she attended the season two premiere of Special Ops: Lioness in Los Angeles. 

The Oscar-winning star displayed her shock weight loss on the red carpet, putting on a daring display as she modelled a backless, cowl-neck top and a bright yellow midi skirt with whimsical, dramatic pleats.

One witness reported the star looked ‘incredibly thin’ on the set of Babygirl in New York City last year.

The source alleged that Nicole ‘has been working herself ragged’ and all her projects were starting to take ‘a toll’ on her.

Separate living arrangements

The country star has been on his High and Alive World Tour since May. He is due to perform in Hershey, Pennsylvania on Thursday.

Nicole and the children, meanwhile, are staying in Nashville, where the couple own a $4million compound. 

TMZ reported Monday that Keith has ‘acquired his own residence in Nashville and has moved out of their family home.’ 

Earlier this month, it emerged that Nicole was spending a small fortune each month to live in a stately London home away from Keith. 

The actress had been staying in England to film the Practical Magic sequel, and was residing at a luxurious Hampstead mansion once owned by pop star Boy George.

The stately manor reportedly costs the Moulin Rouge actress $87,288 per month in rent, with Keith notably absent from the property.

While the London move was for work, it certainly raised eyebrows back in Nicole’s native Australia.

‘[Kidman and Urban] do make an effort to speak every day when they’re apart, but it is shocking how much time they’ve spent apart since Nicole’s mother died last September,’ an insider told local magazine Woman’s Day earlier this month. 

‘It’s like they both went their separate ways.’ 

Holidaying without Keith 

In August, Nicole shared Instagram photos of her dreamy European holiday with daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14 – with Keith nowhere in sight. 

‘Summer memories. Now back to school,’ she captioned the post, which included videos and pictures of the family holidaying with Nicole’s sister Antonia and niece Lucia Hawley. 

One image showed the family celebrating Sunday Rose’s birthday. 

Keith was still touring with his band at the time.

Nicole’s raunchy roles

Nicole has been taking on increasingly raunchy roles over the years, including in films such as Big Little Lies, Babygirl and A Family Affair. 

In July, Keith hinted all was not well between the pair when he sensationally hung up on a radio station after a crude question about his wife’s raunchy film scenes.

Previously it was reported that Keith was unfazed by Nicole’s steamy onscreen encounters as he had learned to separate his wife from the character on screen.

‘When Keith is watching her work, he sees it as her art,’ a source told DailyMail.com in October 2024. 

‘She is playing characters – she isn’t playing Nicole Kidman. Keith isn’t wincing during these types of scenes, he knows it is just part of the story.

‘He removes himself from seeing her as his wife and supports her and enjoys the work.’

The insider claimed Keith ‘doesn’t want to know’ any script details aside from her ‘schedule’ so he can ‘figure out when they see each other and their kids.’

Telling interviews 

In September 2024 Nicole admitted there was no such thing as a ‘perfect’ marriage when asked about her Netflix drama, The Perfect Couple, by E! News.

‘There’s no perfect anything,’ she said, ‘anything that’s presented as perfect… forget it,’ she added. 

She was then asked what she thought of her marriage with Keith being presented as ‘perfect’ in the press.

‘I don’t see any of that. No, I don’t see that,’ she insisted. 

Nicole and Keith’s split was confirmed by Daily Mail on Tuesday. 

The Oscar winner and the musician have been kept apart of late amid their hectic filming and touring schedules – with an insider saying Kidman was left ‘blindsided’ by the split.

The source said: ‘Keith never sees Nicole, either she is filming or he is on tour. There was a lot of love between the two and they might not divorce, but there is a world that they both live where neither of them are in it.

‘Keith and Nicole have been together for decades and there is a world which they can reconcile, but the way their pairing is now, it is not a couple.’

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban for further comment and has yet to hear back.

Nicole and Keith wed back in 2006 during a traditional Catholic ceremony at the Cardinal Cerretti Chapel in her hometown of Sydney. 

Nicole was previously married to Tom Cruise, 63, from 1990-2001 and the exes adopted two children during their union, Isabella, 32, and Conor, 30.

Cruise would go on to marry Katie Holmes in 2006 and welcome daughter Suri, 19 – before splitting in 2012.
