TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A woman was charged with attempted murder following a shooting at the University of Alabama Arboretum.

On Monday, officers with Tuscaloosa Police Department and the University of Alabama Police responded to the Arboretum around 1:00 p.m. on reports of the shooting. Officers arrived at the scene and discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man, currently unidentified, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Violent Crimes Unit took over the case and determined the shooting stemmed from a domestic argument between the victim and a woman. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Jone Vshal Bates, ran from the scene, but was arrested later Monday night.

Bates is charged with attempted murder at this time and is being held without bond.

Captain Jack Kennedy with the Violent Crimes Unit said the victim and suspect are not affiliated with the university.
