() The Department of Defense issued a new hazing, bullying and harassment policy Tuesday.

The department, which was renamed the Department of War by President Donald Trump earlier this month, issued a 20-page memo that said its current definitions of hazing and bullying are “overly broad, jeopardizing combat readiness, mission accomplishment, and trust in the organization.”

Department Secretary Pete Hegseth, who wrote the memo, announced that he has directed the Under Secretary for Personnel and Readiness to conduct a month-long review of the “Department’s definition of these behaviors,” and cited that commanders should not be burdened with administrative tasks that can “distract” from “their core mission.”

He noted that this review’s objective is to “strike balance, ensuring leaders have the tools necessary to foster a warrior ethos rooted in mutual respect and accountability, while also maintaining a lethal and ready Force.”

Trump signed an executive order earlier this month to restore the Department’s original name from DoD to the Department of War, which was its original name, hailing back to 1789.
