JSO has charged Andre Myers, 54, with leaving the scene of a crash involving death without rendering aid, a first-degree felony, in connection to the crash.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An arrest has been made in connection to a hit-and-run crash in Jacksonville’s Arlington area that killed 13-year-old Genesis Webber Tuesday night, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.
JSO has charged Andre Myers, 54, with leaving the scene of a crash involving death without rendering aid, a first-degree felony, in connection to the crash.
JSO said officers found Myers asleep in his truck when they arrested him late Wednesday night.
According to JSO, at approximately 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, a pedestrian was walking in the 700 block of Arlington Road North when they noticed Genesis lying alongside the road unresponsive.
JSO Sgt. Hungerford told First Coast News the pedestrian then called 911, as members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene and pronounced Genesis dead upon arrival.
Hungerford said evidence at the scene suggested Genesis was walking along Arlington Road when a vehicle ran over a curb and struck her. The vehicle also hit and destroyed a large section of a chain link fence, according to Hungerford.
“The vehicle then fled the scene without reporting the crash nor rendering aid,” Hungerford said.
The crash marks as the 125 traffic fatality in Duval County in 2025, and the 29th involving a pedestrian, Hungerford said.
“The loss of any life is tragic, but the loss of an innocent young life makes this case much more difficult,” JSO said in a statement. We hope this quick arrest brings peace to Genesis’s family and friends while they mourn her loss.”
