JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Johnson City School System received a long-awaited new addition this week, the Star Lab.

Schools across the district will soon begin using the Star Lab after the Johnson City Public School Foundation’s Spell-A-Bration fundraiser raised the necessary $60,000. The foundation called the Star Lab the “future of education.”

“The Star Lab will open up new worlds for our students, literally,” the foundation said in a release. “It will allow them to explore the cosmos, better understand our place in the universe, and spark a lifelong passion for science, technology, and discovery. Your support is helping to shape the future of education in our community, and we are deeply grateful.”

The Johnson City School System hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Star Lab on Thursday.

“I’ve had this up in the library for the last week practicing and the kids walk by and go, is that the Star Lab? Anna Armstrong Librarian at Liberty Bell Middle told WJHL”

The Star Lab will be used by teachers to give students a visual opportunity to observe stars and earth in a different way.
