An 84-year-old woman has been found dead in a western Sydney home.

Police were called to a home in Melonba in Sydney’s west at around 12.30pm yesterday by family members of the woman.

When police arrived, they found the body of Irene Selmes in her bedroom.

Police subsequently established a crime scene and opened up Task Force Vado to investigate her death. They believe her death is suspicious.

She was last seen at around 9.30pm on Friday by her family members with whom she resided.

Police said Selmes is believed to have lived with her son, her son’s partner, and his children.

Police say they were in the house between the time she was last seen and the time the concern for welfare call was made to police.

“They were all there [at the house],” Acting Superintendent Gretchen Grove-Jones told reporters this morning.

“She went to bed at 9:30 the previous night, and we were called at 12:30 the next day.”

Grove-Jones said Selmes was located with injuries to her upper body, but said it was too early to say what could have caused these injuries.

No significant evidence was found at the crime scene, and police said Selmes’ family members are cooperating.

Police have appealed to the public for any information about the incident, with the investigation being “limited” at this early stage, according to Grove-Jones.

No arrests have been made.
