ORLANDO, Fla. – As of 8 p.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring two areas of interest.
The first is a weak area of low pressure over the central Gulf. While it shows no potential for tropical development over the next several days, it could still bring periods of heavy rain to parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama through the weekend, eventually reaching the Texas coastline. Strong upper-level winds are expected to prevent any significant development.

The second system is a tropical wave near the coast of Africa. This one has a better chance of development and could become a tropical depression later in the week. Long-range models currently keep the system over open water through the week.
The NHC gives it a 60% chance to develop in 7 days.
