Two injured, one sustains life-threatening injuries in Decatur crash

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — One person was hospitalized in a shooting Friday night, and the Decatur Police Department is investigating the situation, Millikin University said.

In an email sent out to the campus community shortly after midnight on Saturday, Millikin University said at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Decatur Police Department was dispatched to the report of shots fired at 1073 W Main Street. One victim was transported to a nearby hospital.

The university said at this time, they do not believe that the parties involved have any known connection to Millikin. They believe the incident is isolated to the parties involved and the situation poses no ongoing threat to campus safety.

“We share this information to inform, not to frighten, our community,” Millikin University said in its email. “Community members are encouraged to be intentional in their personal surroundings at all times.”

Millikin said this case will be investigated by Decatur Police. WCIA reached out to the Decatur Police Department for more information but did not receive an immediate response.
