SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Severe flooding in Salt Lake City, Utah is impacting residents as responders look to do everything they can to reduce the overflow.

The flooding is hitting mostly near 1955 West 800 North. One local resident told affiliate KTVX he’s lived in the area for 40 years and has never seen anything like this before.

Salt Lake City Fire said the water system is overrun as too much water is flooding in from the valley. Public Works is on scene helping with sandbags while more pumps are being requested to deal with the overflow.

Councilmember Victoria Petro said she’s working to help families impacted by the flooding.

“This is a neighborhood of blue collar working class families,” Petro said. “Their homes are their assets. I’m not going to leave them here when the water recedes.”

Also, use caution driving through standing water.”

Salt Lake County officials said their flood control team is working to clear debris and bring in as many pumps as possible to clear the flooding.
