John Anthony Etienne (El Paso County Sheriff”s Office).
A Texas man allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend early Friday morning before leaving — only to return hours later and batter her again, police say.
John Anthony Etienne, 32, stands accused of unlawful restraint, assault of a family member impeding breath, continuous assault on a family member and retaliation, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 4 a.m. Friday to the 3700 block of Peak Place after the victim accused Etienne of assaulting her, cops say. Etienne allegedly fled the scene before deputies arrived. Later that morning, police received another call from the woman, who said Etienne returned to the home after they left and assaulted her yet again. She suffered numerous injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The press release did not detail how Etienne injured the victim, and no other details were released. El Paso County court records show he faced similar charges in 2019. That case was dismissed.
Cops arrested the suspect on Saturday and took him to the El Paso County Jail where he has since posted a $58,500 bond. His next court date is not listed.
“The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting victims of family violence and ensuring offenders are held accountable,” El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said in a statement.
