Karin Immergut is an American lawyer and judge of the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. She was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon in August 2019. In May 2024, Judge Immergut was appointed to serve on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court for a term of seven years.
Prior to her appointment to the federal court, Judge Immergut served for ten years as a judge on the Multnomah County Circuit Court in Portland, Oregon, presiding over both criminal and civil cases.
Before joining the state court bench, Judge Immergut served as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon from 2003 to 2009, having previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney both in the District of Oregon (2001-2003) and in the Central District of California (1988-1994).
While U.S. Attorney, Judge Immergut served as a member and then chair of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys from 2004 to 2009. She served as an Associate Independent Counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr from May 1998 to October 1998.
Judge Immergut began her legal career as a litigation associate at Covington & Burling in Washington, DC. Judge Immergut earned her B.A. from Amherst College in 1982 and her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1987.

On Saturday, October 4, 2025, Judge Karin Immergut enjoined the Trump Administration from federalizing the Oregon National Guard, finding the federalization order to be unlawful. The Trump Administration subsequently sought to circumvent this order by redeploying troops from California, a move that Attorney General Bonta and Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield challenged in court on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
“This is a nation of constitutional law, not martial law,” wrote Judge Immergut in a Saturday order rejecting the administration’s claims that it needed military support to protect federal property and enforce immigration law, what she called an “extraordinary measure.”
