A Texas man who assaulted his ex-girlfriend twice in one day has been released from jail on a $58,500 bond.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said a woman called them at about 4 a.m. on Friday and said she’d been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, 32-year-old John Anthony Etienne. He fled the scene before deputies arrived.
Later that morning, after deputies had apparently not located him, they were again called to the victim’s home after Etienne returned and again attacked her. This time, she sustained injuries severe enough to warrant being taken to a hospital for treatment.
And this time, deputies found Etienne and took him into custody “without incident.”
He was booked into jail on multiple charges, including unlawful restraint, assaulting a family member impeding breath, continuous assault on a family member, and retaliation.
“The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting victims of family violence and ensuring offenders are held accountable,” the sheriff’s office said.
Court records show that Etienne had been arrested on similar charges in 2019, although it’s near clear if his victim was the same woman, Law&Crime reported. Those charges were dismissed.
Investigators provided no further details, including any possible conditions for Etienne’s release.
