LeBron James' 'decision' announcement is just an ad

(WJW) – LeBron James’ “decision of all decisions” turned out to be an advertisement campaign.

The basketball star announced a partnership with Hennessy on Tuesday, just one day after posting a mysterious video on social media teasing a “second decision.”

The reference to a “decision” appears to be a nod to a 2010 ESPN TV special in which James announced he would be leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to play for the Miami Heat. In the video he shared Monday, James was seen sitting in a chair on a basketball court, much like he had in the 2010 special. He was also sporting a similar shirt.

A post shared by Hennessy on Tuesday confirmed the announcement was a promotion for a new limited-edition Hennessy VSOP by LeBron James.

“This fall, I’m going to be taking my talents to Hennessy VSOP,” James said in a video posted by Hennessy.

Viewers on social media had speculated that James’ “second decision” may have concerned the next step in his career, or possibly his retirement from the NBA.

Ticket sales also reportedly skyrocketed for Los Angeles Lakers games before the “decision” was revealed to be a promotion for Hennessy: Prior to Monday’s “second decision” post, ticket prices started at about $82 for an upcoming game at Crypto.com Arena, according to ESPN. But after the post, single tickets jumped to $580, the outlet reported, citing Vivid Seats.

James, 40, is the NBA’s oldest player. He confirmed last week at NBA’s media days that he would be playing next year in his record 23rd season in the league.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to be able to play the game that I love for another season,” James said. “However the journey lays out this year, I’m super-invested because I don’t know when the end is. I know it’s a lot sooner than later.”
