Taylor Swift is extremely proud of her latest album. Still, she said that she welcomes the rather mixed reactions to it.

Taylor Swift released her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Oct. 3. Since then, social media has been abuzz with listeners, including Swift’s own fans, criticizing it. While Showgirl still has many defenders, it is one of her most divisive albums in years and likely has not had the reception she expected. Still, Swift said she welcomes everyone’s point of view, even when it isn’t positive.

Taylor Swift said she welcomes every reaction to her latest album

The Life of a Showgirl has been widely discussed on social media. While a number of people have criticized it, Swift said she doesn’t mind. They’re still talking about her.

“If it’s the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, you’re helping,” she said on Apple Music’s The Zane Lowe Show. “And art, I have a lot of respect for people’s subjective opinions on art.”

She still believes in her album, but acknowledged that everyone is entitled to their own opinions about it.

“I’m not the art police,” she said. “It’s like everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want. And what our goal is as entertainers is to be a mirror.”

People are frustrated with more than just the music

Many people have criticized the songwriting on The Life of a Showgirl. Still, there has been widespread frustration regarding other aspects of its release. She recently announced four new variants with acoustic bonus tracks. She has already put out multiple variants of the album, and fans have called her out for what they describe as shameless greed.

Many fans have also come to suspect that some of the promotional videos for the album were made using AI. Fans noticed misspellings and wonky imagery that seemed to indicate the videos were not made by a human. Many of her fans even started using the hashtag #SwiftiesAgainstAI. While it’s not clear what hand Swift played in the creation of these videos, many of her fans think the videos are anti-art.

Even some of Swift’s biggest fans have chimed in with criticism.

Taylor Swift said she feels proud of the album

Despite all the criticism, Swift has happily gotten to work promoting The Life of a Showgirl. Before its release, she said she feels that it’s perfect as is.

“There’s no other songs coming,” she said on the New Heights podcast. “With Tortured Poets Department, I was like, ‘Here’s a data dump of everything I thought and felt in two or three years. Here’s 31 songs.’ This is 12. There’s not a 13th, there’s not other ones coming. This is the record I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time.… Every single song is on this album for hundreds of reasons, you know, and you couldn’t take one out and it’d be the same album. You couldn’t add one. It’s just right.”
