BAINBRIDGE, Indiana (WJW) Authorities are investigating the disappearance of an Indiana mother who hasn’t been seen since a “suspicious” fire at her home nearly a week ago.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, crews responded to a reported structure fire at a home in the 6200 block of E. County Road in Bainbridge just after 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

When they got there, first responders found smoke coming from the residence. While searching the home, officials didn’t find anyone inside.

The homeowner, 46-year-old Britney Gard, wasn’t there.

Gard was last seen the night before on Sept. 30. As reported by People magazine and other news outlets, family members said they started to worry when she didn’t show up to her daughter’s volleyball game.

Gard’s sister said they found out she was missing after the fire, adding that her purse and vehicle were still at the home, People reported.

The sheriff’s office said all attempts to reach Gard were unsuccessful and the department named her a missing endangered person.

On Friday, the sheriff’s office said in an update that the house fire is being ruled “suspicious in nature” and that they continue searching for the missing mother.

“Our detectives, along with other law enforcement agency detectives continue to use technology based investigative tools and programs to attempt to locate Britney Gard,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.

Anyone with information on Gard’s whereabouts is asked to reach out to the Putnam County Emergency Operations Center and 911 Dispatch at 765-653-5115 extension zero. Tips can remain anonymous.
