So far this season on Love Is Blind, five couples have matched on Netflix’s reality TV blind dating show. Now that the duos are out in the real world, they’re able to converse with one another and compare their relationships.
For one couple in Season 9, the comparison game has reared its head in an ugly way. When contestant Edmond found out that he and his fiancé Kalybriah were the only couple that had yet to sleep together, he threw a fit. Now, Kalybriah has spoken out about what it was like to experience the moment while the cameras were rolling.
Kalybriah Was Surprised By Edmond’s Outburst
At first, Edmond and Kalybriah appeared to be going strong—she even gave him the loving nickname “my chocolate king,” and the two appeared to have a sweet dynamic. Once Edmond discovered they were the only couple who hadn’t been intimate, however, he began to scream and cry when the two returned back to their hotel room.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Kalybriah divulged that she was shocked by this reaction, as she’d told Edmond in the pods that she wanted to wait until marriage before sleeping together:
His initial reaction was very shocking considering I laid that boundary down before he even proposed to me in the pods. I’m like, ‘Are you okay that I want to wait until marriage?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m okay with it.’
To make matters worse, Edmond appeared to shame Kalybriah for short-lived romantic flings she’d had in the past, making it seem like he was almost entitled to physical intimacy with her. This, Kalybriah said, was hurtful for her to hear, and out of character for the man she thought she knew.
“To see that it actually made him so angry that he threw in my face something I told him in confidence before, like, ‘Well you’ve had a one-night stand before, I’m your fiancé, why won’t you do this?'” she recalled. “It was hurtful. I’m like, ‘Wait, when did it get so nasty?'”
Kalybriah Says The Moment Changed How She Sees Edmond
After Edmond’s temper tantrum, Kalybriah says she worried about how they would communicate later on in their relationship. She noted specifically that she was concerned he might lord it over her in future arguments. In the aforementioned conversation, she detailed what her thoughts were like during the moment in the hotel room:
Now I feel like I can’t tell you things because you’re going to throw it in my face in an argument. But I’m just so understanding, so I understood that maybe a lot of people that he’s dated haven’t stood on their boundaries. Okay, this is a new world, this is our new world, and we’re learning each other still. It was so fresh, so it was just me trying to understand it all.
As of this article’s writing, the pair is still together, and the most recent episode left off on a cliffhanger about the pair’s future. As a next step, all the Season 9 couples will soon be returning home to Colorado, where they’ll move into shared apartments and give cohabiting a shot. Only time will tell if Kalybriah and Edmond are able to figure out their communication and make it to the altar.
