ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A horse-drawn buggy with nine people – including seven minors – was thrown off a road Tuesday night when the driver of a Jeep crashed into it.

Around 11:20 p.m., deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash on the edge of Berne near the intersection of SR 218 and CR 000.

Investigators determined the buggy was in front of a Jeep on SR 218, and instead of slowing down and passing the buggy, the driver of the Jeep allegedly crashed right into it. The buggy was thrown off the road, leaving remnants and personal belongings scattered around, police described in the press release.

First responders “worked frantically” to aid those on the buggy who were injured, according to the release.

The man guiding the horse-drawn buggy had to be flown to a hospital for treatment. Another man and five of the kids were taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The last two passengers, a woman and her 2-year-old son, did not ask for medical treatment and were able to leave.

The driver of the Jeep, 33-year-old Bradley Ocilka from Kentucky, told police he wasn’t injured. He was taken to a hospital for a blood draw. The results have not been released.

As of this story’s publication, there was no further update on the condition of anyone’s injuries. The release did not state a possible reason behind the collision.
