Police in Indiana are searching for a 46-year-old woman who vanished after a house fire.

According to police, Britney Gard hasn’t been seen since September 30, after a fire at a residence off County Road 600 North in Putnam County.

No one was inside the home, and officials and search teams have tried to locate her without luck.

“Who took her? How does someone just go missing these days? It doesn’t make any sense,” Gard’s sister Stephanie Bowen said, according to WRTV.

Bowen said when Gard didn’t show up to her child’s volleyball game, she knew something was amiss.

“She was supposed to be at her daughter’s volleyball game. Wasn’t there. And then there’s a fire. Her car is at home, her purse is at home. She’s nowhere to be found, and the house is on fire. It makes no sense,” Bowen said.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said fire investigators, who are still working to determine what happened, indicated that the fire to be suspicious.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said that the fire had been limited to one area of the home. Additional information is expected to be released after the investigation is complete.

“I feel like there’s something bigger here that we don’t know and someone knows something,” Bowen added.

Gard is described as standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing around 140 pounds. She has long black hair.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Putnam County Emergency Operations Center and 911 Dispatch at 765-653-5115 extension zero. For anonymous tips, contact the tip line at 765-653-3211, extension 699.
