A 73-year-old New Hampshire man has been charged with the murders of his 67-year-old sister-in-law and her 39-year-old daughter.

Bath Police officers found Charles “Chuck” Readey at the home with the bodies of Cindy Moody and Kristal Moody in the early afternoon on Tuesday, the New Hampshire Department of Justice said.

Readey was found outside the residence, holding a rifle, WMUR reported. Bath Police Chief Todd Eck told Readey he couldn’t help the victims of the shooting until he put the gun down, and Readey replied, “You can’t help them now,” court documents say.

According to WCAX, Readey told investigators he was “frustrated” that Cindy Moody had been living in his basement for several years. He reportedly admitted shooting Kristal Moody first, through a door, then shooting her mother.

Readey is charged with two counts of second degree murder.
