A New Jersey man who was charged with possessing child pornography was ordered last week to remain jailed until trial.

Howell police arrested John Curley, 61, in late September, after 43 images of child sexual abuse were allegedly found on his devices. Monmouth County prosecutors said a further search uncovered printed photos in his basement — some depicting Girl Scouts and cheerleading squads, including notes like “rape,” “orgy,” and “I love pedos,” according to the Asbury Park Press.

Curley allegedly also recorded 18 videos of himself in which he called himself a “very proud baby pedophile” and talked about sexually abusing and killing children.

“The baby in the stroller, the baby in the stroller in Belmar. I see the baby. The baby is in the stroller. Oh my God, I want to rape it,” he said in one video, according to the Asbury Park Press.

In another video, Curley reportedly talked about raping and murdering a girl at a specific address.

Weeks before his arrest, Curley reportedly called 911 about a neighbor who called him a pedophile. Curley told the dispatcher, “You know what happens next,” if the neighbor goes on his property, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The same night as that call, Curley allegedly called Bays Head police and asked whether he was still banned from the library because he was going there. He reportedly also stated that he loves watching child pornography and there was nothing they could do about it.

Prosecutors said Curley was charged in 2009 with possessing obscene materials and enticing a child, but those cases were dropped because he was deemed incompetent to stand trial. Prosecutors also noted that days before his latest arrest, he was involuntarily committed to a psychiatric ward for two weeks.

The breadth of evidence led Judge Jill O’Malley to keep Curley jailed until trial.

“I think he’s a risk to live victims. I think he’s very much a danger to every kid in Monmouth and Ocean County,” she said last Friday, the Asbury Park Press reported. “The defendant has a very serious deviant sexual interest that has been present for decades.”

Curley is due back in court on November 3.
