ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – It seemed like David Sleiman’s nightmare was over when Orange County crews installed surveillance cameras and cleaned up dozens of pieces of trash illegally dumped on his property off Concord Avenue earlier this year.

However, now the owner says people are coming across the street to his second property and continuing to illegally dump.

“Every week, they come in, and they dump, and it’s getting out of control,” Sleiman said.

As doors, car parts, and other debris pile up across the street, people are still finding ways to dump on the original property that the community first alerted the News 6 Results Desk about.

“We installed a fence. They’re still knocking through the fence and dumping,” Sleiman said.

He claims people are pushing farther into his property to leave their junk in an effort to avoid county enforcement. “It’s whatever is on the right-of-way. It’s whatever is on the street side. If it’s on the property, they don’t get into the property,” he said.

Sleiman says it’s costing him thousands of dollars to clean up the mess, which he says is unfair. “I had to hire a Bobcat to come in, and they charge me $500 per hour,” said Sleiman.

Orange County officials say they constantly send crews to clean the area throughout the week and have followed through on their promise to set up cameras and signage.

“So the long term is looking for signage, cameras, lighting to discourage folks from dumping illegally,” Orange County Commissioner Mike Scott of District 6 said to News 6 back in April.

But Sleiman says it’s just not enough.

When asked what more the county needs to do to help, he said, “I literally don’t know. I know they need to monitor it more and take it seriously. Go through the footage and see who is dumping and go after them.”

News 6 reached out to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, asking how often they monitor the area and whether anyone has been caught dumping since the cameras were installed. They plan to follow up with News 6 on Friday.
