EDGEFIELD COUNTY, S.C. () – One person has been arrested after a missing person investigation has ended with the discovery of a body.
According to the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, investigators entered the home of a man reported missing last June with a search warrant on Thursday, October 9th, and while executing the search warrant, the body of James Wheeler, Sr. was found in his home.
Investigators say that the family was cooperative but not deeply concerned as they stated it was normal for Wheeler to travel for extended periods without notifying any family, but investigators and the family members say they became suspicious after the summer passed with no one hearing from him plus after further investigation, it was revealed that Wheeler made no transactions in his bank accounts since he had been reported missing.
According to investigators, in recent weeks, Wheeler’s daughter, Monica Lee Wheeler-Walton, 54, became uncooperative and unstable, and she became the focus of the investigation.
Authorities say Wheeler-Walton was arrested for Murder and Desecration of Human Remains and is currently incarcerated at the Edgefield County Detention Center.
An autopsy is scheduled for next week.
This is an ongoing investigation.
