TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — On Monday, government workers will have officially been without a full paycheck, and Feeding Tampa Bay is stepping in to assist anticipating their needs as the government shut down continues.

“Folks are always impacted that don’t expect it and often can’t weather it easily, and so we’re making sure that the federal employees who are now being asked to work without paychecks will have the resources they need,” Feeding Tampa Bay president Thomas Mantz said.

Aside from the fresh array of fruits, vegetables and healthy choices, Mantz tells us they have set up different avenues for those employees to be serviced beyond what meets the eye here.

“We’re also lining up other partners that can provide other care,” he said. “Utilities, mental health services, a variety of other partners that can also help navigate the challenges folks are going to face.”

Mantz tells us they have tailored their services outreach to their unique situation and are prepared to juggle an influx of new community members looking for assistance who may have never sought their help before.

“Again when you’re impacted with something you don’t expect and you don’t necessarily know where to go, part of our great challenge is making sure those folks know there’s someone here for them,” Mantz said.

He said they’ve been working for nearly a month to prepare for the impact of Monday, which is when these new services for furloughed government workers go live.
