Two hospitalized following house explosion in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Two people were rescued and hospitalized following a house explosion in Jacksonville Friday afternoon.

In a Facebook post, the Jacksonville/Morgan County Office of Emergency Management said on Oct. 10 at approximately 4:50 p.m., emergency crews responded to a house explosion in the 2100 block of East Morton Avenue in Jacksonville.

Two people were rescued from the home and transported to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, then transferred to the Springfield Trauma Center.

As of Friday, at approximately 8:23 p.m., the Jacksonville Fire Department remained on scene, working with the Illinois State Fire Marshal and local partners to investigate the cause of the explosion.

Residents were being asked to avoid this area while emergency operations continued. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
