VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Officials in Volusia County have hoisted double-red flags along the shoreline, effectively banning all water activities. This precautionary measure comes in response to perilous surf conditions, potent rip currents, and extensive debris scattered by recent tidal events, as detailed in a recent news announcement.

The advisory follows significant damage to the Jetty Connector in Ponce Inlet, which occurred early Saturday amid another bout of “severe tidal activity.”

Authorities noted that the public has been denied access to the structure since Hurricane Imelda first impacted it with tide-related damage.

Once conditions stabilize, county teams are set to commence debris cleanup operations, as outlined in the release.

In addition, officials remind visitors not to remove or disturb seaweed washed ashore during recent tides, as it plays an important role in capturing sand and helping beaches and dunes recover naturally.

Officials said beach driving access will likely remain limited over the next several days until conditions improve.

Officials also reported large amounts of seaweed washing ashore in recent days. Beachgoers are urged not to remove or disturb the seaweed, which plays a critical role in trapping sand and aiding the natural recovery of beaches and dunes.
