Five teenagers charged after father and son allegedly stabbed

Five teenagers, some as young as 14, have been charged after a father and son were stabbed in Melbourne’s Southbank precinct early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the Yarra Promenade just before 2am after reports of a brawl.

Police were told the two victims, a father and adult son aged 23 and 47, were walking with other family members when the teenagers passed them and bumped into one of their group.

An argument began before the teens allegedly assaulted the father and son.

The pair were stabbed in the altercation, with both being taken to hospital.

The pair’s injuries are non-life-threatening.

The five teens allegedly fled the scene, but were arrested soon after by police.

A 15-year-old boy was charged with intentionally cause injury x 2, affray, assault in company x 2 and assault with weapon x 2.

He was remanded in custody to appear before a children’s court today.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with affray and assault in company, criminal damage and possess a controlled weapon without excuse relating to an unrelated incident.

A 14-year-old boy from was charged with affray, recklessly cause injury, assault in company x 2 and assault by kicking.

Both were bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.

A 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were both released pending summons.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses.
