Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi are said to be embracing life in the English countryside after relocating to the United Kingdom more than a year ago. 

Former talk show host DeGeneres and her actress wife have traded their glamorous lives in southern California for a more sedate way of life in the Cotswolds, where they own a 43-acre farmstead. 

And locals say the American couple have adjusted well to country life since moving to the property, located on the outskirts of Oxfordshire town Witney, last November, and often mix with neighbours in local pub The Farmer’s Dog. 

A source told People:  ‘They come in regularly, they are really chilled and very polite. They come in with their dogs, sometimes on their own and sometimes with other people.

‘One time, they asked to sit at the corner table presumably as it’s a bit more private. Everyone knows who she is, but they don’t bother her.’ 

DeGeneres, 67, and De Rossi moved to Kitesbridge Farm in the Cotswolds after Donald Trump won an unprecedented second US presidency  in 2024 – citing his reelection as a primary reason for the move.

But DeGeneres had also suffered a very public fall from grace following claims from multiple employees on her former talk show that she had helped to foster a ‘toxic workplace’.

The source added: ‘[Ellen’s] so nice and very down to earth. It’s a small village so of course everyone gossips, but I haven’t heard a single bad thing.’ 

A second local told the publication: ‘They were [at our pub] for about an hour or so last year and were discreet. They had a drink and left, no fuss.’ 

It’s understood that the married couple became ‘very disillusioned’ after Trump claimed a second stint in the White House, with sources claiming they vowed to ‘to get the hell out’ of the US as a result, according to TMZ.

The publication notes that DeGeneres was among former Vice President Kamala Harris’ high-profile celebrity donors.

She donated $3,300 to the losing Democratic candidate, which is the maximum amount that can be donated directly to a candidate, though wealthy donors often get around the contribution limits by donating much more to political action committees and super PACs.

The TV personality’s career was tarnished by accusations that she fostered a toxic workplace on the set of her eponymous daytime talk show, which aired its last episode on May 26, 2022.

She delved into her persona non grata status on her stand-up special For Your Approval, which was released on Netflix in late September.

DeGeneres and de Rossi listed their Bali-inspired mansion in Montecito, California, ahead of their move to the UK. They purchased the home in 2019 

A person close to DeGeneres said she and de Rossi were fleeing the US in response to the 2024 presidential election, in which Donald Trump won a second non-consecutive term

The comedian joked that she had been ‘kicked out of show business’ in the special, which featured material about how she has been spending her time since the end of her TV show.

DeGeneres and de Rossi arrived in Britain the day before Trump was elected for his second term, which she said was received poorly by her friends – all of whom texted her with ‘crying emojis’, she later disclosed. 

And their farm has a lot to offer, including a sweeping kitchen, bespoke solid wood furniture, dressing rooms, marble–clad en suites, a two–bed guest cottage, indoor swimming pool, helipad and a five–car garage inside a converted granary barn. 

‘We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty,’ she told broadcaster Richard Bacon during an event in Cheltenham in July.

‘The villages and the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming, and it’s just a simpler way of life. I just love it here.’

But a year after snapping it up, Kitesbridge was already back on the market – with the asking price hiked from £15m to a cool £22.5m. The bulk of the uplift is said to cover what she spent on renovations.

DeGeneres and de Rossi have since relocated to a new–build that her estate agent admitted looked as if it belonged in Malibu.

‘We decided we needed a different house, and now we are selling that house,’ she told an audience at an event in July.

‘So if anyone wants a house, it’s a beautiful stone farmhouse.’
