An indoor cycling instructor is recalling the late Diane Keaton’s unusual workout attire in the wake of her shocking death.

“When I got a text this morning about Diane Keaton passing I was hoping it wasn’t true,” Adam Goldstein, who used to teach in Los Angeles but is now an instructor in Idaho, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, October 11.

“Back when I taught cycling at flywheel West Hollywood she would take my class almost every Saturday with her daughter,” he added. “She was one of the kindest, funniest and down to earth people I have ever met in my life.”

He continued, “Everyone was very much aware that she was in the room. Of course because of who she was. But also for the fact that she did the class in her hat, sunglasses, pinstriped outfit, and was an absolute riot the entire time.”

Diane Keaton was the ultimate style icon, both on and off the screen. With her turtlenecks, thick belts, tinted eyewear and bowler hats, the beloved actress — who died at the age of 79 in October 2025 — pulled off an array of legendary black-and-white and monochromatic looks that, truthfully, only she could. “I still […]

The instructor went on to explain that when living in Hollywood, it’s not uncommon to “meet someone you admire” only to have that person “let you down.”

“But she was even more endearing in person than on screen which doesn’t even seem possible,” he continued. “My heart goes out right now to her family and friends. And we all lost a living legend today.”

He concluded, “So Diane, thank you for bringing joy into so many people’s homes. And thank you [for] bringing so much joy into a spin studio on Santa Monica blvd in West Hollywood.”

A spokesperson confirmed to People on Saturday that Keaton died in California. She was 79. No additional information regarding her death has been made public and her family has asked for privacy while they mourn her loss.

While Keaton was known for her many memorable performances — from her roles in The Godfather and Father of the Bride to Something’s Gotta Give and The First Wives Club — the late actress was also a fashion icon.

“It’s an honor! Why me? I’ve been so fortunate and lucky,” Keaton told Vogue of her status as a fashionista. “And I do love clothes; I love looking at them. I buy all the magazines, and I’m constantly cutting pages of things that I find interesting — a Dior outfit, hats, or how people decorate their homes. I’m an addict.”

Keaton was particularly known for her affinity for turtlenecks — which she considered to be “underrated” — as well as her extensive hat and scarf collection.

Diane Keaton Shares Her Fashion Fails

Diane Keaton is experiencing a little fashion remorse! The actress unveiled regrets about her past style choices.  “Here lies my endless fashion mistakes,” Keaton, 77, captioned a video montage of photos shared via Instagram on Tuesday, February 7. “May they rest in peace.”  In the clip, which featured narration from Keaton, the Book Club star […]

“I incorporated a tie or two from the ’70s, some polka dots from the ’80s, my cross necklaces from the ’90s and absolutely nothing from the ’60s except for my black turtlenecks,” she told The Gloss of her personal style. “I toned down the colors from the past and leaned into my instinct and love for black and white.”

The actress was also a big fan of belts.

“I don’t have anything except my own regular body, right? So the best way to hide it, and one that I really enjoy, is to use and utilize belts. Belts are our saviors now,” Keaton said via a social media video post in July 2020. “I just thought I’d share that with you. Some of my tips on, you know, how to have a body that isn’t just like mine — mine is just like a stick straight, kind of bad thing with some skin popping out all over. See what I’m saying? So now I’ve got on a belt. Now, don’t you think that helps a little, right?”
