() — A new dark comedy filmed right here in Augusta is bringing Hollywood vibes to the CSRA. “Not So Bright” is the brainchild of Choice Skinner, with cousins Dylan and Willis Fincher starring as brothers in the film.

“Not So Bright is an idea that I came up with…these two guys were in my acting studio,” Choice said. “I saw him at the golf course one day in a dream. I just said, this is something that I know can lead to something amazing.”

The comedy draws inspiration from classics of the 1990s. “Pineapple Express, The Hangover…Superbad, True Romance,” Dylan said. “The type of comedies that we especially grew up on…recently comedies have lost that touch. That’s what we’re trying to bring back.”

Filming began September 3, and the cousins say working together has been natural. “We’ve always pretty much had just about the same taste in movies and various pop culture, but especially movies, especially comedy…It’s been the highlight of our lives,” Willis said. “We wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Bringing the project to Augusta offered opportunities they couldn’t get in California. “I wouldn’t be able to do what I’m doing here in Augusta in California…with the resources of people who are working with us, our sponsors,” Choice said. “Locally, we’ve had a lot of sponsors, friends, people who have come in and let us use locations. We’re working with no budget here…it’s been awesome to see the crew and people who really believe in the project.”

The film features local talent, including NFL star Ray and Coco Hillary. “Local people who haven’t had big breaks…Ray’s first film. He’s just knocking it dead in every scene,” Dylan said. “Augusta has some amazing talent.”

About 70% of the cast came from Troy’s acting classes at Image Max Studios. “A lot of them studied with me over a year to two years. It’s easy to direct ‘cause I don’t have to give so much direction all the time,” Choice said.

“Not So Bright” will have a theatrical run, with a release planned for late spring to early summer 2026. “Make sure you come to the premiere…right here in Augusta, Georgia,” Choice added.
