Priscilla Presley and Robert Kardashian had a close relationship in the ’70s. Kardashian reportedly wanted to marry Priscilla, but their friend said the romance took a turn after she cooked him dinner. Here’s why her attempt to do something nice for him went so badly wrong.
Priscilla Presley’s relationship with Robert Kardashian changed after she made him dinner
After Priscilla and Kardashian met, they quickly moved in together. Kardashian was happy in the relationship.
“Priscilla made Robert very happy,” their friend Joni Migdal said, per Page Six. “He wanted to marry her and have children with her. That was definitely his hope, his plan.”
Still, they had their problems. Tom Kardashian, Robert’s brother, recalled a time when Priscilla cooked dinner.
“Priscilla once tried to make dinner for Robert because he kept asking her, so Priscilla said that one night she cooked asparagus, and she made this and she made that, and she went out of her way to make it perfect, and he HATED it,” he said. “She said that after that meal, he never suggested that she make dinner for him again.”
According to Tom, Priscilla then made it clear that she had no intention of marrying Kardashian.
“Look, I’m not going to marry anyone until Elvis dies,” she told him.
Migdal believed that part of the issue with Kardashian asking Priscilla to cook was that she felt he was trying to turn her “into a domesticated Armenian housewife, and that infuriated Priscilla.” She left her marriage to Elvis because she felt that he exerted too much control over her.
Priscilla didn’t have to cook for Elvis
Priscilla rarely had to cook in her relationship with Elvis. He had kitchen staff to prepare their meals. The “Blue Suede Shoes” singer had specific demands regarding what he wanted to eat.
“At that time when we were fixin’ food for him, a lot of it was fat, sure,” his cook, Nancy Rooks, told Classic Bands. “We would try to put him on a diet, but he wouldn’t let us.”
Rooks said Elvis watched her on the cameras at Graceland to make sure she put what he wanted on his plate.
“He wanted what he wanted to eat,” she said. “You couldn’t make no suggestion. I took food off his plate, and he would see me on the camera and tell me to go back and put that food on his plate. He’d be upset. I’d have to come back downstairs and put it back on his plate.”
Priscilla Presley said she wouldn’t marry Robert Kardashian because of Elvis
Although Priscilla and Kardashian loved each other, Elvis impacted their relationship. He did not want Priscilla to date other men, and she didn’t think he could “handle” it if she married someone else (via People).
Even after Elvis’ death, Priscilla said she didn’t want to marry again.
“To be honest with you, I never wanted to marry after him. I never had any desire,” she said. “No one could ever match him.”
She had other relationships over the years, but maintains that Elvis was the love of her life.
