DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Authorities in Daytona Beach are investigating a tragic incident where a woman was discovered deceased in her home, with initial reports suggesting that four dogs may have been involved.
According to a statement from the police department, officers were dispatched to a residence at 544 Spruce St. on Friday evening following reports of a woman who was unresponsive and suffering from severe injuries.
In the report, it was noted that the woman’s boyfriend had gone to the house after being unable to contact her by phone. “Upon entering the home, he found her unresponsive on the floor and immediately called emergency services,” the statement revealed.
When investigators arrived, they identified the woman as 38-year-old Monica Emerson. She was found with multiple injuries, and four dogs were observed roaming the premises.
The police department suggests that Emerson might have experienced a medical episode, which caused her to lose consciousness. During this time, it is believed she was fatally attacked by the dogs.
Animal Control Services later responded to the scene and took custody of the four dogs, which include a large mixed-breed male and his three adult offspring, police added.
Investigators also said that the four dogs will be held for 10 days before being euthanized.
No additional information has been provided at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
