Israeli Forces Violate Gaza Ceasefire, Kill Civilians in Fresh Attacks

Israeli forces killed at least nine Palestinians in Gaza on 14 October, despite the newly signed ceasefire agreement meant to halt violence across the Strip. According to multiple Palestinian media sources, three bodies were brought to Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, and six more arrived at Gaza City’s Baptist Hospital after a day marked by Israeli drone strikes, artillery shelling, and gunfire.

Witnesses report that residents in Gaza City’s Shujaiya neighborhood, who were examining the ruins of their homes, were attacked by an Israeli drone. Additional strikes were noted in Jabalia, Al-Tarans, and the Al-Tahlia area of Khan Yunis, where a young man lost his life near Al-Fukhari.

The Israeli military claimed responsibility for the deaths of five Palestinians they accused of crossing the “Yellow Line,” a demarcation agreed upon in a previous withdrawal arrangement, asserting the action was necessary to “neutralize the threat.”

This version of events from the IDF has been met with doubt, as reports suggest several victims were located in designated civilian safe zones, not in proximity to Israeli forces.

An investigation by DropSite News revealed that Israeli troops from multiple brigades intentionally set fires to homes and infrastructure throughout Gaza City during their withdrawal on October 9th and 10th. This calculated destruction aimed at civilian areas has added to the already extensive damage.

These incidents occurred shortly after Hamas released the bodies of four Israeli hostages, and a significant exchange took place where 20 living hostages were swapped for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, a deal facilitated by the U.S. and Egypt during the Sharm el-Sheikh summit.

Despite the start of the ceasefire and agreements at the summit, Israeli operations leading to Palestinian deaths continue, casting doubt over the prospects for a real peace or a sustained end to the suffering in Gaza.
