Can the residents of Woodstone B&B rescue Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) from the clutches of Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh) in the upcoming fifth season of Ghosts? While Sheila Carrasco, who plays the endearing Flower, remains tight-lipped about the premiere’s outcome, she assures fans that it’s bound to deliver plenty of laughs.

In a conversation with DECIDER ahead of the Season 5 launch on October 16, Carrasco, who embodies the free-spirited 1960s hippie, revealed that the season picks up right where Season 4 left off. With Jay inadvertently signing away his soul to a demon, the ghostly residents of Woodstone are understandably on edge.

“We’re all really worried about Jay; the entire house is banding together to save him,” Carrasco hinted. True to the show’s style, the situation becomes a comedic goldmine despite its serious nature. “There’s a lot of humor in our efforts,” she added.

Indeed, the show never fails to deliver on its comedic promise.

A preview clip from the first episode of Season 5, shared on the show’s Instagram, showcases the ghosts rallying around Jay’s predicament. However, they can’t help but indulge in their usual antics, including a humorous correction of Sam’s (Rose McIver) misunderstanding of “Defcon” levels. Pete (Richie Moriarty) humorously clarifies that “Defcon 1” signals the highest threat level. Check out the sneak peek below…

For Carrasco, having Ambudkar’s character live in a state of constant fear creates some of the best moments on the show and some of the best dynamics between characters. That includes characters who the fans don’t get to see as often, like Elias — Hetty’s (Rebecca Wisocky) devious and devilish ex-husband — and Patience (Mary Holland). It’s especially interesting as audience members have been waiting to see these two characters go up against each other.

“My favorite episodes are where the whole cast is together. And we definitely see Elias come back and we see Patience, they get to finally have a bit of a showdown,” Carrasco said. “I can’t say too much more, but it’s going to get pretty scary.”

Sadly, the actress could not share much more about the premiere episode itself, but did tell DECIDER that when it comes to Season 5, there is a lot in store for her own character. After four seasons of playing the not-all-there, somewhat high hippie of the estate, audience members at home are finally going to get to see a more sophisticated side to Flower in the fifth season.

“I am most excited for the fans to see more of the smarter side of Flower. That was a really fun thing to start exploring last year in Season 4. I think it’s going to be really fun,” she explained, adding that the fan service will also be there in the way of the holiday episodes, which she says are “really, really wild.” We’ll just have to wait and see!

The Season 5 premiere of Ghosts airs on CBS at 8:30/7:30c on October 16. New episodes air Thursdays and drop the next day on Paramount+.

Paramount+ offers two subscription plans. The ad-supported Essential plan costs $7.99/month, while the ad-free Premium plan (which comes with Showtime and live CBS) costs $12.99/month. New subscribers can take advantage of a seven-day free trial.
