Kim Kardashian recently acknowledged that she may have erred in some of her daughter’s fashion decisions.

The 44-year-old reality TV icon faced criticism this past summer after North West, her 12-year-old daughter, was seen wearing a corset during a trip to Rome.

Although Kim did not respond to the backlash at the time, she has now admitted that she’s “still learning” in her role as a mother. She explained that North was eager to experiment with her wardrobe to emulate her friends’ styles.

Speaking on the Call Me Daddy podcast, Kim said: ‘It’s really hard and it’s really interesting because all the kids are wearing the same things.

“But then my daughter tries to wear it and I’m like, ‘okay, we’re never wearing that again.’ Unfortunately, we made that mistake in front of the whole world,” Kim stated.

She noted that North typically prefers a tomboy look, but wanted to try something her friends were into. However, Kim realized that perhaps such choices aren’t always suitable, adding, “It’s just like, okay, wait, maybe you can’t wear that, you know?”

Kim continued: ‘So, as a mum, you’re kind of learning at the same time. But what I do know is my baby’s such a good girl and such a sweet girl. 

‘The things that she has experienced, where she might have been outspoken or did something, she learns from that.

‘She does listen to me but in other areas I’m like “babe if you want blue hair it is what it”. It makes her so happy. I would never take that creativity away from her.’

When North first debuted her bright blue hair, fans were divided online, with some suggesting the style was too mature for a pre-teen. 

Yet Kim revealed her daughter had seen the discourse and had a very sassy response. 

Kim recalled: ‘She’s really mature in one sense, where she’ll be like, “Mum, I saw this and I don’t really care if someone says they don’t like my blue hair or my this or that.” 

‘She’s really confident and is like, “I probably wouldn’t be hanging out with those people. Like if you saw what they look like and what they’re wearing!”

Kim mused: ‘I just think anyone that’s raising kids, especially four kids by myself, I’m doing the best that I can and my babies are good babies. 

‘So, I just urge everyone to not be judgmental and to have grace on single mums trying to figure it all out with a pre-teen. It’s a lot.’

Fashion expert Rochelle White previously told the Daily Mail that North’s fashion sense seems to draw inspiration from Gen Z trends, K-pop stars, her father Kanye West’s fashion legacy and even her auntie Kylie Jenner.

She mused: ‘Pop culture has an influence in everything. So, with the Netflix show Wednesday, the Goth-Glam look is popular as an asthechic. 

‘Think lots of neo-goth, corsets, ruffles and heavy-soled shoes as an example, which North has been seen rocking. 

‘Her father Kanye, will also be a inspiration for her, particularly with oversized styles. I feel that this is where her performative element comes from. Her nods to his music persona and wardrobe are in tandem.’

That doesn’t mean, however, that there are no references to her mother’s side of the family – with Kylie Jenner providing hair inspiration.  

‘Kylie has been known for her coloured hair. I feel that North has taken a page out of her aunt’s book and is playing homage to that,’ Rochelle added. 

Rochelle claimed North’s distinctive style is probably not a rebellion against the Kardashian aesthetic but more generational taste. 

She added: ‘She is having fun with style and fashion in her own way, but pulling on everything that is around her, which I believe she should do for that age and also in fashion. 

‘She might not be in rebellion but being her own person, which everyone should let her be. She is no doubt trying to set herself apart from her mother Kim and her family but she still remains part of them with coordinated pieces.’
