JSO: Shooting on Caljon Road leaves teen dead

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has detained two individuals following a fatal shooting incident involving a teenager on Jacksonville’s Southside, reported on Tuesday evening.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 2100 block of Caljon Road at approximately 6:30 p.m. JSO Sgt. Dishman provided details on the situation, confirming that the officers discovered a teenage boy outside a residence with a gunshot wound.

Despite efforts to save him, the young victim, described as being in his mid-teens, succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Sgt. Dishman informed First Coast News that two individuals have been detained in connection with the incident. “Detectives are currently interviewing them to piece together the events leading to this tragedy,” he said. “At this moment, the nature of the incident and the relationships between those involved remain unclear.”

“There are two people detained, and detectives are speaking with them about what occurred,” Dishman told First Coast News. “At this time, we do not know the circumstances of the incident or the relationships of those involved.”

Dishman said one of the two people who were detained is the person who called 911 about the shooting.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit are conducting the investigation into the shooting, according to Dishman.
