A young man from Wisconsin, accused of murdering his infant daughter and abandoning her in a forested area during his teenage years, is now facing trial.

Logan Kruckenberg Anderson, currently 21, was only 16 when he allegedly took the life of his newborn daughter, Harper, and left her lifeless in the snowy woods. The Green County District Attorney’s Office reports that Kruckenberg Anderson’s then-girlfriend gave birth to the baby on January 5, 2021, in Albany, a quaint village situated roughly 30 miles south of Madison. Tragically, just days after her birth, Harper was discovered deceased, leading to the teenage father being charged as an adult with first-degree intentional homicide and concealing the death of a child.

Details from a criminal complaint, accessed by local NBC affiliate WMTV, reveal that the child’s mother delivered her in a bathtub. Days following the birth, the father dialed 911, claiming the mother had taken the baby out and that he hadn’t seen the child since.

Upon questioning by Green County Sheriff’s Office investigators, the mother allegedly confessed that she and Kruckenberg Anderson had decided they couldn’t care for the baby. Kruckenberg Anderson reportedly informed deputies that they reached out to a person named Tyler through Snapchat, intending for him to take Harper to an adoption agency. He stated he paid Tyler $60 for handling the situation.

Nonetheless, Kruckenberg Anderson’s narrative reportedly altered. The complaint alleges that he confessed to taking Harper into the woods, covering her unclothed body with snow, and abandoning her to the elements. As he departed, he purportedly heard the infant’s cries.

After Kruckenberg Anderson led investigators to the baby’s body, crime scene technicians determined that Harper had been shot. He allegedly told police that he shot the baby twice in the head.

According to the complaint, an unnamed juvenile turned a firearm in to the sheriff’s office, saying that Kruckenberg Anderson had given it to him days before. The firearm matched the two bullets that were found near Harper’s body.

Kruckenberg Anderson was charged with one count of first-degree intentional homicide and hiding the corpse of a child. On Tuesday, he appeared in a Green County court for his final pretrial appearance. His trial is scheduled for Oct. 27.

No charges were filed against Harper’s mother.
