Donald Adler recently marked a pivotal moment in his life with a thrilling bachelor party, celebrating his upcoming marriage.

Having faced significant challenges after losing his father just four months ago, Adler is now beginning to regain his sense of hope and joy.

For the pre-wedding festivities, he traveled to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, accompanied by his brother, eight close friends, and his fiancé, Peter Schum.

While the occasion was filled with love and celebration, the return flight to New York took an unexpected turn.

Footage shared with the Daily Mail reveals a troubling incident where a homophobic individual heckled Adler as he walked down the aisle of a Delta plane with his brother.

The duo were holding up signs of Adler and his beau’s faces when the bully wrongly assumed they were the engaged pair.

‘We were just walking on, we weren’t making a huge scene or being loud and disruptive,’ Adler exclusively told the Daily Mail.

‘Our best man made the blow-up faces of both me and my fiancé. My fiancé was actually already seated on the flight, and that was me and my straight brother [walking in the video].’

Adler told the Daily Mail the heckler yelled at him and his brother. But Adler didn’t actually hear it.

‘He was actually slewing homophobic words and phrases at me and who he thought was my fiancé,’ Adler said.

‘We were walking on the plane, and we just put those big signs in front of us because we couldn’t fit it in our bags. We were having fun and then this man started shouting, ‘Get them off the plane, get them off the plane!”

By the time Adler settled into his seat, a flight attendant grabbed the loudspeaker and joyously said: ‘Congratulations, we love that!’ 

He recalled her saying, ‘We want to celebrate the wedding, give it up for our happy couple.’

Adler clapped along, until he saw his phone blow up with messages from his friends on the flight. They were asking if he had heard what the passenger was yelling.

‘I looked at my phone and realized that she was doing that to support us, because that man had been yelling to get us off the plane,’ Adler told the Daily Mail.

Adler said the weekend was ultimately perfect

‘I was a little confused and alarmed that this man was so upset. But what was nice is that the whole plane seemed to clap in our defense, and were happy that we were there celebrating a wedding.’

The flight attendants offered their endless love and support to Adler, offering free drinks and constant check-ins to ensure they were comfortable.

Adler’s friend Justin – a lawyer who moonlights as a drag queen – caught the whole fiasco on video.

Justin could be heard lashing back at the homophobe, yelling, ‘He’s getting married, leave him alone!’ followed by ‘Literally f*** you.’

Adler posted the debacle on TikTok where it quickly went viral, racking up more than two million views.

Tons of comments bashed the homophobic man. 

One read, ‘Hope [his] seat didn’t recline,’ while another joked: ”Get him off, get him off’, sir is that an invitation?’

Days after the ordeal, Adler told the Daily Mail he is overwhelmed with gratitude for the kind responses the video received. But, he admitted, the bully’s comments have stuck with him.

‘[The supportive comments] definitely took away any of the pain or hurt of that moment,’ he said.

‘When I listen to it back, I hear in his voice how angry he is, and how offended… I was just walking on the plane with some joy that I was feeling throughout the weekend.

‘Then I was like, right, this is a harsh reminder that this isn’t cool for everyone, and this actually quite offends some people.’

Adler described the moment as a ‘gut punch.’

‘I was experiencing one thing, but not realizing that another was going on right in front of me, and specifically against me,’ Adler said.

But he is forever grateful to the Delta flight attendants for their kindness and support.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Delta for comment, but has not heard back.

The 33-year-old fiancés, who struck up a romance six years ago, are tying the knot on Sunday in Brooklyn. 

Gushing over Schum, Adler revealed that the duo ironically met while playing in a gay dodgeball league – despite neither of them being athletic. 

‘Peter is a nurse. He’s really a frontline worker while I make fun TikToks,’ said Adler, a senior social content producer at Bravo.

Despite the drama-filled flight, Adler said the weekend was ultimately perfect.

‘I feel very fortunate that I come from a supportive family, supportive friends, a very supportive job, so the environments that I’m typically surrounded by are very loving,’ he told the Daily Mail.

Adler’s advice to others is to find supportive and loving communities for yourself.

‘Honestly, it didn’t shake me too much, because I knew that everyone else had my back, and I knew that he was wrong, and I was in the right for celebrating love freely.

‘My major takeaway is that I’m grateful for the folks that I’m surrounded by, and I’m grateful to know my morals and values, and I’m grateful that I’m gonna have a beautiful, loving wedding.’
