Man Breaks Into Home with Machete, Seeks Lifetime Prison Stay

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – On Wednesday night, a man armed with a machete was taken into custody after he reportedly broke into a home in Fort Wayne, demanding cash and threatening the lives of those inside.

Before the incident, the suspect allegedly warned shoppers at a nearby Target of his intentions to commit the crime.

The suspect, Tyler Allison, 21, is now facing several charges, including attempted murder, burglary, intimidation with a deadly weapon, and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

In a separate case, the father of missing baby Emmanuel Haro has pleaded guilty to murder.

Allen Superior Court records reveal that a woman dialed 911 shortly after 9 p.m., during which she could be overheard insisting she had nothing to give. Dispatchers relayed the call to police, suspecting it was either a theft or an armed robbery in progress.

All four people who were home during the attack told police Allison was a “total stranger” and they had never seen him before.

Two of the witnesses said Allison walked through the unlocked door uninvited. He was armed with the machete and demanded money. He was given $140, but demanded more, according to court documents.

At some point, Allison slashed one of the victims’ faces with the machete and they had to be treated at a hospital for a laceration on the side of their face “which caused lots of bleeding,” the responding officer described in court documents.

Two other witnesses told the police they had been sleeping in the basement when they heard screaming. They went upstairs and heard Allison say “I’m going to kill you,” according to court documents. Allison then allegedly pointed the machete at one of them.

Not long before the break-in, officers had responded to a nearby Target, where it was reported a mentally ill man was making “alarming statements” about breaking into a home, murdering the residents and spending the rest of his life in prison.

Investigators later interviewed Allison and he admitted to everything. According to court documents, he said he believed prison life would be better and his plan was to rob a house and kill anyone inside.

“He stated that ‘unfortunately’ he did not get to all of that,” police wrote in court documents.

Allison’s initial court hearing is scheduled for Friday.
