A U.S. military drone executed a strike on a drug-smuggling vessel in the Caribbean on Thursday, resulting in two to three survivors, according to information provided to Fox News by a U.S. official.

The vessel, partially submerged and described by sources as “large,” was targeted while navigating international waters.

Following the strike, the U.S. military deployed search and rescue teams, including a helicopter, although it remains uncertain whether any of the survivors have been rescued, as per the official’s report.

The condition of the survivors and the severity of their injuries have not been disclosed.

Targeting shot of a Venezuelan drug boat and Donald Trump

President Donald Trump has previously focused military efforts on targeting Venezuelan drug trafficking boats.

As Reuters first reported, Thursday’s incident marks the first known instance of survivors since U.S. forces began its campaign of lethal strikes against suspected drug boats.

The drone-fired strike marked at least the sixth known incident in a quiet but intensifying U.S. military campaign targeting drug boats.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
