Halle Berry is beaming with pride! The renowned Oscar-winning actress recently took to Instagram to share the exciting news of her daughter Nahla’s early acceptance into college.

In a heartfelt post on her Instagram Stories, the 59-year-old actress exclaimed, “Congratulations to my sweet Angel Nahla for her early college acceptance!” Accompanying the message was a delightful pink funfetti cake, adorned with the words “You did it Nahla!!” in white icing. The cake was nestled in a charming box with the phrase, “Today is the sweetest day.”
Berry shares her 17-year-old daughter, Nahla, with her former partner Gabriel Aubry. She is also the mother of 12-year-old Maceo-Robert, whom she had with her ex-husband Olivier Martinez. Currently, Berry is in a relationship with musician Van Hunt, who made headlines earlier this year by proposing to her, though Berry has yet to officially accept.
In June, Berry appeared on Today with Jenna & Friends where she discussed Nahla’s future plans and her own aspirations for this new phase in her daughter’s life. Speaking with host Jenna Bush Hager, Berry said, “She’s 17. She’s going to a college summer program, the college that she’s hoping to go to next year. She’s going away this year to the college summer program.”
When asked by Hager about her feelings on Nahla preparing to leave home, Berry expressed more excitement than sadness. “It is, but I’m not one of these moms that feels like, ‘Oh, she’s leaving.’ Yes, will I worry? Of course. But am I excited for her to start her life and figure out who she’s gonna be? Absolutely,” she shared. “I’m dying to see who she’s gonna be and what she’s gonna do and what she’ll discover.”
When Hager asked if it felt strange to see her daughter preparing to leave home, Halle admitted she was more excited than sad. “It is, but I’m not one of these moms that feels like, ‘Oh, she’s leaving.’ Yes, will I worry? Of course. But am I excited for her to start her life and figure out who she’s gonna be? Absolutely,” she said. “I’m dying to see who she’s gonna be and what she’s gonna do and what she’ll discover.”
Halle also spoke candidly about balancing motherhood with her career, emphasizing the importance of maintaining identity beyond parenthood. “We can still be seen as good mothers, there for our children, but also, we have to be there for ourselves because these kids will grow up and move on and if we haven’t maintained a life for ourselves, then what happens?” she explained.
She continued, “What happens when our loves leave the house? What have we built for ourselves? So I think it’s really important to keep your love life, keep your career, keep the things that make you you, your hobbies, your passions, whatever it is. Keep those alive while you’re also being a mom.”

While she tends to keep her children’s lives private, Berry often expresses how deeply motherhood grounds her. During her People’s Icon Award acceptance speech in 2021, she thanked Nahla and Maceo for their patience and love.
“My two little kids, they have to lose so much time with their mommy because I get to go work and do what I love, so thank you Nahla, thank you Maceo — I hope you find something in life that you can love and you can do with as much vigor and as much zest as I do what I do. I love you guys,” she said.
