CHICAGO (WLS) — A legendary Chicago pizzeria is celebrating a significant milestone in its storied history this month.
In conjunction with ABC7’s “Pizza Power” series for National Pizza Month, Pizzeria Due is commemorating 70 years of crafting its famed deep dish pizzas. As the sibling to Pizzeria Uno, the birthplace of Chicago-style deep dish in 1943, Pizzeria Due launched in 1955 at 619 N. Wabash Ave., swiftly establishing itself as a fixture in the heart of the city.
Rachel Mihich, the General Manager, appeared on ABC7 Chicago’s morning show Thursday to delve into the establishment’s rich heritage and the unique elements that define their deep dish. “The secret lies in the buttery crust, the chunky tomato sauce, and the layers of cheese—it’s quintessentially Chicago,” Mihich explained.
In honor of its 70th anniversary, Pizzeria Due is throwing a celebratory bash on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will feature live music from local artists, a deep dish pizza cooking demonstration, and collaboration with Goose Island Beer Co. Attendees can also enjoy a cake and pizza-cutting ceremony, marking the restaurant’s seven-decade presence in Chicago.
Prior to the celebration, enthusiasts have the chance to enter a contest to win exciting prizes, such as:
- Free deep dish pizza for a year
- Tickets to an invite-only anniversary party
- Spots in an upcoming Deep Dish Pizza Cooking Class
- Entries close Friday, Oct. 17, and winners will be announced that day.
