In Kissimmee, Florida, the Gaylord Palms Resort extended a warm welcome to 40 accomplished ice carvers on Friday, who journeyed over 7,000 miles for the annual ICE! event. The carvers, hailing from Harbin, China, were greeted by enthusiastic applause from resort employees, while Orlando’s Wah Lum Chinese Temple marked the occasion with a traditional Good Luck Lion Dance.

Following the spirited welcome ceremony, News 6 was invited to explore the remarkable 9-degree ICE! attraction. The talented carvers were hard at work, meticulously shaping 1,000 tons of ice into scenes from the beloved tale of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Armed with chainsaws, chisels, and hand tools, they brought the classic story to life.

“Having the iconic Christmas movie ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’ come to life is truly nostalgic,” said Meghan Hash, who directs Special Events and Entertainment at Gaylord Palms Resort. “We’re thrilled to present 11 iconic scenes from the movie this year.”

The ice sculptures feature cherished characters, including Hermey, the elf with aspirations of becoming a dentist, as well as Rudolph and his companion Clarice. Visitors can also look forward to seeing the enchanting Island of Misfit Toys, a highlight for fans of the classic story.

The sculptures include fan favorites like Hermey, the elf who dreams of becoming a dentist, Rudolph himself alongside Clarice, and the whimsical Island of Misfit Toys.

Carvers have already spent six days working on the sculptures and will continue carving for a total of 33 days.

The attraction opens to guests on Nov. 14.
