Chicago shooting: Child shot in the Loop near Adams, Wells downtown Chicago, sources say; Chicago police investigating

A shooting incident involving a young boy occurred on Friday afternoon in downtown Chicago, according to sources from ABC7.

Chicago police were observed conducting investigations in the vicinity of Adams and Wells streets within the bustling Loop area.

The incident unfolded in a lively section of the Loop, just a block from the Quincy CTA station and two blocks away from the iconic Willis Tower. At the time, the area was teeming with pedestrians.

Sources confirmed that a male juvenile sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The altercation took place around 4 p.m. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a sizable group of young individuals, likely teenagers, engaged in a dispute or altercation inside a fast-food establishment prior to the shooting.

The altercation spilled out outside near Adams and Wells, and during the fight, witnesses said as many as three shots were fired.

It’s unclear at this time if anyone is in custody. ABC7 crews saw police appearing to detain a man, but it’s unclear if he’s connected to the incident.

Police had Wells Street blocked between Adams and Monroe as they began an investigation.
