In a testament to its enduring appeal, General Hospital has shown that the reign of daytime television legends is far from over. The cherished ABC soap opera clinched the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series award at the 2025 Daytime Emmys, securing the prestigious accolade during the 52nd annual event on Friday, October 17. Competing in the same category were Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless.

This significant victory marked a triumphant 2025 for General Hospital, which amassed a total of seven Daytime Emmy Awards, the highest tally among soaps this year, further solidifying its record-breaking legacy.

The iconic series, which also claimed the same honor at the 2024 Daytime Emmys, continues to dominate with the most wins in the Outstanding Daytime Drama category. Garnering 16 nominations this year alone, the show remains a formidable force over six decades since its inception.

Debuting on April 1, 1963, General Hospital stands as the longest-running American soap opera still in production, with over 15,600 episodes spanning 62 seasons. In an era of dwindling daytime television, the series consistently delivers strong performances for ABC, attracting roughly 2 million viewers per episode in 2025—a remarkable achievement for a show that has become a staple of television history.

This year’s acting nominations included Laura Wright (Carly) and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis), with Grahn taking home the award for Lead Actress. Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) was nominated for Lead Actor, while Kate Mansi (Kristina) contended for Supporting Actress. In the Supporting Actor category, Tajh Bellow (TJ), Gregory Harrison (Gregory), and Jonathan Jackson (Lucky), who emerged victorious, were also recognized. The Guest Actress category featured nominees Jacqueline Lopez (Blaze), Alley Mills (Heather), who won, and Avery Kristen Pohl (Esme).

Beyond the acting categories, General Hospital also took home trophies for writing, directing, costume design/styling, casting, and hair and makeup, solidifying its reign as the undisputed heavyweight of daytime drama.

For context, The Young and the Restless — a frequent winner in this category with 11 previous victories — walked away with just one win from its 19 nominations this year.

Even after more than six decades on the air, General Hospital continues to capture fans’ attention with high-stakes storylines, sprawling family drama, and a legacy that stretches from the legendary 1981 “Luke & Laura” wedding (which drew an estimated 30 million viewers) to today’s younger generation of viewers streaming on demand.

The 2025 Daytime Emmy Awards were presented in Los Angeles on Friday, October 17, and streamed live on watch.theemmys.tv and the Emmys app.
