CHICAGO () Federal immigration officers operate under specific guidelines that dictate how they can apprehend individuals residing in the U.S. without documentation. These rules are partly shaped by a court ruling that restricts arrests without a judicial warrant or probable cause.

However, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has faced criticism for allegedly disregarding these protocols, with Chicago Alderperson Jessie Fuentes among the vocal critics.

Fuentes found herself briefly detained by federal agents after she questioned their possession of a warrant concerning an immigrant receiving treatment in a local emergency room. In an interview with , Fuentes claimed that ICE’s actions amounted to a campaign against the Latino communities in Chicago.
