In Chardon, Ohio, a man faces accusations of swiping an ambulance from a local hospital and embarking on a reckless joyride while under the influence.

Footage captured by a dashboard camera reveals the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office reacting promptly to reports of an ambulance theft from University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center late on Tuesday night.

Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand explained that the series of events unfolded around 11 p.m. The suspect, who had been transported from Chardon to the hospital, awaited medical clearance when the situation took a turn.

“The ambulance was left running,” Hildenbrand recounted. “This individual, visibly intoxicated, decided he no longer wanted to remain at the hospital. He exited the facility, commandeered the ambulance, and drove away.”
