The Hill reports that on Saturday, millions of Americans took to the streets for “No Kings Day” protests, a significant nationwide event. Many elected officials joined the demonstrations or commented on them, adding their voices to the widespread criticism of the Trump administration.
Organizers planned approximately 2,600 protests across all 50 states, with gatherings occurring in both small towns and major metropolitan areas like New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, New Orleans, Miami, and Portland, Oregon. These protests aimed to highlight dissatisfaction with the current administration’s policies and actions.
In Illinois, the protests held particular significance. The state’s Democratic Governor, JB Pritzker, has previously engaged in disputes with President Trump over the deployment of the National Guard in Chicago and beyond. In a message on the social media platform X, Pritzker praised the demonstrations as an embodiment of “democracy in action.”
